Proposal 003: Reset or Retain?
At the heart of this transition is the question of whether player data from the soft launch should carry over into the new version or be reset entirely. Authored by Clarken, Josh, Space Nation Improvement Proposal 003 outlines the potential impact of a data reset and emphasizes its technical necessity.
The development team argues that Resurgence represents a complete overhaul of both game design and underlying architecture. The significant structural differences between the current system and the new version make a data reset the only viable technical solution. Without it, development cycles would be drastically extended, system performance could suffer, and the player experience might be compromised.
Key Benefits of a Data Reset
According to the proposal, resetting player data would:
- Lower entry barriers for new players, reducing churn and improving accessibility.
- Enhance marketing efforts by emphasizing a "fresh start" narrative to attract more players.
- Optimize the new game framework, laying the foundation for future iterative updates.
- Pave the way for potential seasonal resets in future updates.
If approved, certain player progress will be converted into special "bonds" redeemable in limited-time shops. The distribution of these bonds will be based on achievements during the soft launch, including compensation tied to Captain Level, Adventure Level, and Skill Level milestones.
What Data Will Be Retained?
Not all progress will be lost. The proposal guarantees the inheritance of:
- Currency items (CHR, Fuel, Oikos Core, Prime OIK)
- Functional items (e.g., Weapon Production Workbench)
- NFT assets (with potential adjustments due to mechanism changes)
- Guild data and member information (though some guild features may be affected)
The Alternative: No Reset
The development team acknowledges that full data inheritance is possible but warns of significant drawbacks:
- More complex adjustments to the new player experience, including map structure and mission compatibility issues.
- Difficulty in implementing experimental weapon system changes, with higher risks of online data modifications.
- Greater restrictions on future updates, making gameplay adjustments more challenging.
- Potential delay of ~1 month for the Resurgence launch.
Why Reset? Technical & Design Rationale
The proposal’s appendix details the technical and design reasons behind the reset:
- Compatibility issues: Changes to weapons and equipment systems could invalidate existing player assets, making a reset the safer choice.
- Data structure upgrade: The new version requires a more efficient and flexible database, which the old system cannot support.
- Future expansion potential: A reset frees up development space for future features, such as refined spaceship enhancement systems.
Framework Optimization: A Smoother Experience
Resurgence introduces several optimizations to enhance gameplay:
- Fuel system adjustments: Fuel consumption removed from most scenarios, lowering the beginner learning curve.
- Leveling simplification: Reduced XP requirements (Levels 1-51) and streamlined task processes for faster progression.
- Daily tasks & Battle Pass: New rewards unlocked at Level 50, improving long-term engagement.
- Weapon system redesign: Weapons reclassified into three categories (Main, Secondary, Tactical) for better balance.
- Component system simplification: Unified spaceship component classifications to reduce confusion.
- Reactor & engine adjustments: Removal of extra HP bonuses to maintain game balance.
Community Decision: A New Era Begins
After the 48-hour discussion and voting period, the Space Nation DAO and community have officially chosen "New Beginnings." This means Space Nation Online: Resurgence will launch with a fresh start, delivering an entirely new experience.
The future of Space Nation Online is here—stay tuned as we embark on this exciting new chapter together. 🚀
